A lifelong member of the Gastonia community, Jesse practiced law in Gaston County for 20 years in both private practice and public defense before beginning a 28-year career as a North Carolina Superior Court Judge. He currently serves as an Emergency Judge and Certified Superior Court Mediator.
A Distinguished Career In Law And Public Service
Jesse began his legal career in Gaston County, practicing in private practice before serving in the Gaston County Public Defender’s Office, where he later became Chief Public Defender. In 1993, he was appointed to the Superior Court bench by Governor Jim Hunt. He went on to serve as a Superior Court Judge for 28 years, including as Senior Resident Superior Court Judge for Gaston County.
Throughout his judicial career, Jesse presided over a broad range of matters and developed a reputation for careful consideration, extensive legal knowledge, and a commitment to the responsibilities of the courtroom. His years on the bench provide a perspective shaped by thousands of cases and decades of experience with the North Carolina court system.
Commitment To Legal Education And The Community
Jesse’s commitment to public service extends well beyond the courtroom. He has served as Vice Chair of the Gaston College Board of Trustees and taught criminal justice and paralegal studies for many years. His work as an educator reflects his belief in preparing the next generation of legal professionals and strengthening the communities they serve.
He remains active in civic and community organizations and endeavors throughout Gaston County. His longstanding connection to the community has been an important part of both his professional career and his life outside the courtroom.
